This iconic IndyCar suit dates back to 1986, a season worn by the legendary Emerson Fittipaldi. This two-time Formula 1 champion also won two Indianapolis 500s and a CART championship that season, all while driving with Patrick Racing. Fitti even took the checkered flag at the challenging Road America track in Wisconsin.
The suit, which includes the famous Marlboro World Championship Team patch on the driver’s upper left corner.
Fittipaldi is legendary in all parts of the world. His four-year run from 1972 through 1975 is one of the finest in F1 history, with season finishes of first, second, first and second. He won 13 of his 14 grand prix during that period.
Fittipaldi moved to CART in 1984, and it didn’t take him long to win a race. That first win came on the ultra-fast Michigan International Speedway oval in a 250-lapper in 1985, and he had to come through the field to do it after starting 19th.
Fittipaldi earned 22 victories in CART, including famous first-place finishes in the 1989 and 1993 Indianapolis 500 races. Providing proof of his talent, only one of his wins (Cleveland, 1992) came from the pole position.
